OUR STORY

Serving Those Who Served.

Since 2015, SAM Center has united our community to support veterans and their families across Northeast Ohio.

The Beginning –

Building the SAM Center

Serving Area Military and Veterans — known as the SAM Center — began in March 2015 with a simple belief: our local heroes deserve more than thanks — they deserve a community that stands beside them.

From the start, veterans, families, and supporters came together around that idea. The SAM Center grew out of compassion and collaboration, determined to fill the gaps where other programs could not. By partnering with existing organizations, we avoided duplication of services and created a stronger network of care for those who served our nation.

Our first facility opened in Massillon, Ohio, in a building generously provided by American Legion Post 221 on a zero-dollar lease. Volunteers remodeled the space from the ground up, and local businesses donated every material and service. What emerged was more than a building — it was a symbol of gratitude and teamwork, a place where service to veterans became service from the heart.

Expanding the Vision —

Creating the Veterans’ Resource Center

As our impact grew, so did our vision. In 2018, SAM Center partnered with Pegasus Farms: Military Family Center, local Rotary clubs, and the local Congressional office to identify best practices for veteran support nationwide. Together, we developed a concept paper calling for a coordinated, community-based hub where veterans and families could access resources, connect with one another, and find comprehensive support close to home.

That vision became reality through the Veterans’ Resource Center (VRC) — the next chapter in our story. The VRC opened in 2022. Located just a few miles from the Ohio Veterans’ Memorial Park, the 11,300-square-foot facility rests on 11.5 acres of semi-rural yet easily accessible land. With a 300-seat outdoor pavilion and a welcoming covered entrance, the VRC hosts educational seminars, therapy programs, resource fairs, and community gatherings — all designed to honor and empower our veterans.

The Veterans’ Resource Center stands as a national model for community-based veteran care, proving what is possible when collaboration meets compassion.

Continuing the Mission

Today, the SAM Center and VRC continue to grow through the generosity of individuals, civic groups, businesses, and private grants. Every dollar, every volunteer hour, and every partnership helps us fulfill our promise — to ensure that no veteran or family stands alone.

When our community sees a need, we find a way to meet it.
We are proud, humbled, and deeply committed to serving those who served.

Join us on our mission.
